Recently, in the ACC Twenty20 Cup between Kuwait and Maldives in Sharjah, there has been a record breaking chase by Kuwait. Initially, Maldives batted first and posed a total of 138 runs on the board in their 20 overs. It was a comparatively low total on the pitch of Sharjah and their skipper, Afzal Faiz top scored in the innings with a score of 34 runs off 35 deliveries with 5 fours.
Chasing down a light total of 139 runs, Kuwait looked desperate right from the start. There was a sense of urgency among the Kuwait batsmen and they dominated over the Maldives bowlers with their intent sense of aggression.
And as a matter of fact, Kuwait chased the target in a matter of 8.5 overs with a run rate of 16.18 runs per over. This happened majorly because of their skipper, Aamir Javed who played a splendid unbeaten knock of 55 runs off 18 deliveries with 3 fours and 6 sixes. This was surely emphatic. He did not respite any of the bowlers and was blistering. Also, he was assisted by Mohammad Irfan, the opener of the Kuwait line up who also remained unbeaten at the score of 63 runs off 26 deliveries with the help of 6 fours and 5 sixes. None of the bowlers did manage to trouble the Kuwait batsmen to the least and thus the target was chased in an emphatic manner.
It is a good sign for the game to see the affiliate nations playing in such a splendid manner and chasing targets in a record breaking manner. Also, the game was played in Sharjah which is a ground that fits the international standards. So, it was pretty brilliant innings by Kuwait.
However, Sibtain Raza was adjourned as the Man of the Match as he clinched 5 wickets for Kuwait against Maldives and that helped them to restrict Maldives to such a low total.
