Elevating the ongoing controversy in Bengal cricket the captain of the senior squad, Laxmi Ratan Shukla has urged to resign from the captaincy all on a sudden on Tuesday. With only a week left Bengal will start a campaign in the Ranji Trophy this season, the dispute seems to have gone into deep as the selectors are looking highly confused over how they will tackle the situation.
Shukla , informing a couple of selectors through text message from his cell phone, has reportedly written that he does not want to continue as Bengal’s captain anymore as under his captaincy the team has failed to perform since the beginning of this season. Even, Shukla has informed his unwillingness to continue as Bengal’s skipper to Sourav Ganguly also. The newly chosen CAB president was in Mumbai on Tuesday. It has been learnt that Sourav will be personally talking to Shukla over the issue and also on the ongoing row in the Bengal squad.
The selectors, however, have already started designing the new blue print if Shukla sticks to his decision of quitting captaincy. It is learnt that Manoj Tiwary could be brought back as the captain of Bengal if Wriddhiman Saha refuses to accept the captain’s post which he had already done previously. Saha will also not be available for Bengal throughout the Ranji Trophy session as he is expected to join Indian squad against South Africa in the forthcoming Test series.
However, protests were made by the people of city-based political organization in front of CAB office against the political inference in choosing Sourav Ganguly as CAB president.
