There has been several West Indians who dominated the opposition bowling. West Indies, throughout the years did face the crisis of getting good batsmen in their line up throughout the years. Their main strength has been their bowling. However, this country has produced some of the greatest batsmen of all times. A few instances to it are Brian Charles Lara and Sir. Viv Richards. Recently, the Jamaican giant, Chris Gayle has achieved a feat. He has passed 7000 runs in test cricket. This milestone has been achieved by 8 West Indian batsmen including him. Chris Gayle became the 8th in the list recently. Here is a list of all of them:

  1. Brian Charles Lara: This left handed middle order batsman was a pure sensation. He was a master class left handed batsmen and his batting was a treat to watch. He made his debut t test cricket in 1993. He tops our list. He has scored 11912 runs in 130 tests and has played 230 innings. He still remains the record holder of highest individual score in a test innings. He scored 400* against England some nine years back.
  2. Shivnarine Chanderpaul: The man with the unorthodox stance of batting is truly a batting legend for West Indies. This left handed batsman rescued West Indies from several batting collapses and thus he stands 2nd in the list. He has scored 11374 in 264 innings off 155 matches.
  3. Sir Viv Richard: He was a batting maestro. His aggressive innings are ever rejoicing and this man holds the record of the players to reach 5000 ODI runs the fastest. In tests too, this man has bagged huge runs. He scored 8540 runs in 182 innings off 121 matches.
  4. Gary Sobers: This mighty match winning batsman also makes himself in the list. He was a great test batsman and he stands at 4th in the list with 8032 runs off 160 innings in 93 matches.
  5. Gordon Greenidge: He was a great West Indian opener for quite a long time. He played some great innings for the West Indians and was a member of the West Indian squad both in the 1975 and 1979 World Cup where they were victorious. He scored 7558 runs off 185 innings in 108 matches.
  6. Clive Lloyd: He has captained the West Indian side on two successive World Cup wins. He was a great batsman too and stands at 6th in this list with 7515 runs in 185 innings off 108 matches.
  7. Desmond Haynes: He has been a powerful West Indian batsman. This man played for West Indies from 1978-1994. He was involved in the 1979 World Cup team. He played some great test knocks. He scored 7487 runs in 202 innings off 116 matches.
  8. Christopher Henry Gayle: This Jamaican giant is known for his hard hitting. He is a great test batsman too and has scored triple century in tests. Recently, there has been a dip in batting form for this giant but he managed to enter the 7000 runs club recently. He stands with 7088 runs in 178 innings off 101 matches. He is the newest entry to the list.
