IPL: Players split after the draft


  • IPL players draft for two new teams started in Bandra Kurla Complex of Mumbai Cricket Association. New Rising Pune will get the first opportunity for chose the players as they are the lowest bidders (negative bid) in the draft.  Both teams have spent Rs 39 crore. MS Dhoni was the first choice for Pune who sent by default 12.5 crore. For Rajkot Suresh Raina was the first choice player. He got the same prize tag as Dhoni. 

    MS Dhoni will be the captain of the side while Stephen Fleming will be the head coach of Pune franchise, Harsh Goenka confirmed. 

    Among the 50 players total 10 players were chosen in the draft. Four foreign players and six Indian players were sold. Ravindra Jadeja was the second most expensive player for. He got 9.5 crore from his home city franchise Intex Rajkot.  

    Ajinkya Rahane and Steve Smith, who played for Rajasthan Royals, has been picked up by New Rising Pune for 9.5 crore and 5.5 crore respectively. MS Dhoni’s CSK teammate Ravichandran Ashwin will also play under him for Pune as the second the most expensive player. 

    MS Dhoni has gone to New Rising Pune for 12.5 crore. Ravindra Jadeja has gone to Rajkot for 9.5 crore. 

    The IPL trading window started today (December 15) and it will continue till December 31. Pune and Rajkot spent total 39 crore off 66 crore. Now they will have 27 crore to spend in the players auction to held on February 6. 

    After being selected for Rajkot as the highest price player Suresh Raina, “Excited to play for the beautiful vibrant city- Rajkot in. Looking forward to having new teammates and support from the people of Gujarat.”

    BCCI was forced to give tender for two IPL teams after broadcaster and other team owners complained that they will suffer big financial loss if total eight teams don’t play the league. 

     

    Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) were suspended for two years after Supreme Court appointed justice R M Committee found their team principle and co-owner were guilty in spot mixing. 

     

    On December 8, in the bid Sanjeev Goenka’s New Rising Pune and mobile company Intex Rajkot won the bids for 16 and 10 crore respectively.      

     

    They are a temporary solution to IPL. Intex Rajkot and New Rising Pune will give BCCI 20 crore and 32 crore in two years.      

     

    They will play the 2016 and 2017 IPL, Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings will back in IPL after serving two years of the ban.  

    Here is the Pune and Rajkot teams and their players: 

    Pune: MS Dhoni (Rs 12.5 crore), Ajinkya Rahane (Rs9.5 crore), R Ashwin(Rs 7.5 crore), Steve Smith(Rs5.5 crore), Faf du Plessis (Rs4 crore)

    Rajkot: Suresh Raina(Rs12.5 crore) R Jadeja (Rs9.5crore), Brendon McCullum(Rs7.5crore), James Faulkner (Rs5.5crore), Dwayne Bravo (Rs4crore)
