‘M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story’: Real scorecard of Yuvi’s 358-run knock for Punjab against Dhoni’s Bihar

Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s recently released film ‘M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story’ is all about the cricketer’s journey of a boy from a middle-class family to the pinnacle of cricket. As the title suggests, the movie has shown has several unknown and interesting story about Dhoni’s life and one of them was when he was playing for his state U-19 team (Bihar U-19 team) in Cooch-Behar Trophy final against Punjab which was led by Dhoni’s future India teammate Yuvraj Singh. The match had an extra importance for the players as selectors were present in the stands to select the players for the U-19 World Cup.
As shown in the movie, Bihar were folded for 357 runs. In reply, Punjab scored a mammoth total of 839 led by their captain Yuvraj Singh who scored 358 runs. The match was a golden opportunity for Dhoni and Yuvraj to get selected in the India U-19 team and as the scorecard suggests Yuvraj was selected in the team while Dhoni was left to rue the missed opportunity.
The movie showed that Dhoni was absolutely shell-shocked to see Yuvraj’s batting.
Sushant Singh Rajput, who played the role of MS Dhoni was seen saying:“Toh day 2 mein hum out ho gaye 84 run pe, pura team out ho gya 357 run pe. Punjab batting karne aata hai, unka pehla wicket girta hai 60 pe, fir batting karne aata hai Yuvraj Singh.”
“Day 2 ke end ka score 108/1. Purey Day 3 mein sirf unka eke hi wicket girta hai.”
“Last day – Day 4, Punjab ka total score 839… Yuvraj ke akele ka score 358, Bihar ke total score se 1 run jyada. Humko 2nd inning hi nahi mila.”
Well, the movie had a lot of scenes that were fabricated to make the movie interesting and lot of fans believed that this scene was also one of them. So let us clarify that the shown match was absolutely real and the match happened in 1999/2000 Cooch-Behar trophy.
