Mandeep Singh Vows To Replicate Virat Kohli In Terms Of Consistency

MSK Prasad led selection committee picked up the ODI and T20I squad for the England series on January 6th and Mandeep Singh’s inclusion in T20 team must have left him amused.

The right-handed batsman though said he has worked hard on his technique and further claimed that to be a regular part of Indian team he needs to imbibe Virat Kohli’s consistency in the future.

Mandeep Singh was good with the bat during this season of Ranji Trophy, notching up 319 runs at a healthy average of 53.16. The numbers, however, helped Mandeep float in the contention pool and later saw him sealing a place in the national side.

Talking about his personal performance, Mandeep said he worked a lot on his front-foot game since India’s A tour to Australia in August-September last year, where he struggled to combat swing. In the final against the hosts, Mandeep scored an impressive 95; guiding India A to a trophy.

“I have improved my front foot play this time. My strength was my footwork and this season I have played both on the front and back foot. Footwork was the key for me and this has been my major improvement.”

Attributing Rahul Dravid for his rapid growth on the International stage, Mandeep said his guidance was vital in improving his technique and played a huge role in keeping himself calm and composed, even in tensed situations.

“Rahul bhai helped me during this stage. I started to keep my bat on the ground and my head too was in a good position. Rahul bhai told me not to think too much about my technique as technically I was very strong, but more importantly to keep a cool and calm mind. He said not to think too much.”

Meanwhile, Mandeep had kind words for his newly appointed captain Virat Kohli, Mandeep said, like everyone, he is also amazed at his (Virat) never ending golden run and later said he wants to instil the level of Kohli’s consistency in himself.

“I just have to improve my fitness and have to increase my adaptability to a situation. I have to be more consistent and want to learn how to be consistent from Virat. Even if it’s a T20 match, I can’t just smash the ball all the time“, Mandeep said.
