Former Indian cricketer Manoj Prabhakar has been roped in as the head coach of Uttar Pradesh Ranji Trophy team, whereas former Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak will be acting as the consultant for the Gaur Hari Singhania Cricket Academy.
The decision was taken during the working committee meeting of Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA), held at Mussoorie.
After Venkatesh Prasad, Prabhakar happens to be the second former Test cricketer who will be in charge of the UP Ranji team. The secretary of UPCA, Rajeev Shukla, said Prabhakar will be present at Kanpur during the Ranji Trophy trials season. After Venkatesh Prasad’s departure, UPCA was searching for an experienced coach to guide the senior team.
Pravakar earlier worked with the Afghanistan national cricket team as a bowling consultant but his contract was not renewed after it ended last month.
The 54-year-old Prabhakar was named the bowling coach of the Afghanistan side and he, along with Pakistan’s Inzamam-ul-Haq as a coach to make sure the team gets recognition at the intentional level.
Heath Streak, on the other hand, will be working with the Academy and will guide and train the promising cricketers of the state, Shukla further revealed. He, also informed that former chief justice of Allahabad High Court and former Supreme Court judge justice Chandramauli Kumar Prasad has been appointed as the ombudsman of the association.
