Marcus Stoinis Makes A Comeback To The Western Warriors Side

The Story

Seam bowling all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has been brought back to the Western Australia side after an absence of four years. The return was on cards following his departure from the Victorian side with whom he began his association in 2011. The Western Warriors have confirmed his arrival while announcing their state contract list for the 2017-18 season on Monday (August 14).

His inclusion has bulked up the already huge list of all-rounders which the Western Warriors have with them on their side. While coach Langer has described his arrival as exciting, it would be very interesting to see how the new signing will be used in the squad with the likes of Mitchell Marsh, Ashton Agar, Hilton Cartwright and Ashton Turner, already present.

Not to forget the list of fast bowlers, most of the national team probables, present in the list of contracted list. A glance at the list spells out the names of Jason Behrendorff, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Joel Paris, Jhye Richardson and Andrew Tye. All these factors might make things very competitive for Stoinis.

Meanwhile, fast bowler Cameron Green, all-rounder D’Arcy Short and wicketkeeper Josh Inglis have been promoted from a rookie contract to full contract.

The man to watch out for

Stoinis has a short history with his home side Warriors as he played only three games back in 2011 before moving to Victoria as a promising 21-year-oldThe 27-year-old made his debut for Victoria in 2013 and cemented his spot in the Bushrangers side and kept climbing the ladder to receive a national call-up in August 2015.

Amazing list of players

Western Australia head coach Justin Langer expressed his delight at having Stoinis back with the state side.

“We’re thrilled to have Marcus (Stoinis) coming home to West Australia, not only because he’s an extremely talented player but he’s a great character as well,” Langer said.

“Young Matt Spoors is an exciting young talent. I love his dancing feet; a lot of kids these days have really slow footwork, but Matt’s got really fast batting feet.

“Twelve players have been Australian representatives and that’s a great tribute to the program we’re running here at the WACA.

“On paper, this side looks amazing, but it’s how we gel on the field that counts.”
