The bitter rivalry between Australian legend Shane Warne and Marlon Samuels escalated to a new high, as the West Indian poked fun at the legendary spinner. Samuels was named the Man of the Match for his outstanding knock of 85*, which guided the West Indies to glory. Samuels thanked all the fans for their support and then had a go at Shane Warne.
Warne and Samuels had an ugly altercation in the past and in the semi-final against India while Samuels was batting, Warne was busy taunting the batsman from the commentary box. A belligerent Samuels said, “Shane Warne has been talking continuously and all I have to say without talking is this is for Shane Warne (He displayed the Man of the Match award to the camera and said). I answer with my bat and don’t answer with the mic.”
Samuels said that he enjoys batting in the finals as he added, “First of all I played a practice match against Australia and I was sitting in the same seat that I got a one-ball duck. So I said I wanted to go back to the same seat and make something special. Yesterday I told the guys about that. I don’t worry about semi-finals because when it comes to the final throughout my life, I always turn up and do well for my team. I grew up watching England cricket. All respect for the England players. I never lose respect for them. We are champions and we want to go from strength to strength.”
