Mashrafe Bin Mortaza Wants Batsmen To Deliver Big For Bangladesh

Bangladesh’s limited-overs skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza urged his batsmen to score big after getting to a good start while stating the Tigers’ batsmen should emulate the quality teams in a process to convert score into big ones that will help his national side which is showing a great progress as a unit in the ongoing three-match One-day International series.

“It is a good lesson for us. The batsmen should learn how to convert 50-60 into a hundred, which is what big teams do,” Mortaza was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.com.

The 33-year-old fast bowler Mortaza stated the team has to deliver and learn on the regular basis. However, the conversion rate hasn’t been up to the mark from Tigers batsmen.

“We have to learn this continuously, and ensure that we keep doing this. Finishing is also an important matter, which has helped us get to that score,” Mortaza added.

In the first ODI in Dambulla, the visitors posted their second highest total in ODIs as 324 for 5 after opener Tamim Iqbal scored 127 runs to see his side winning the match by 90 runs and lead the series 1-0 as second game is scheduled for March 28 in Dambulla.

The Jessore-born right-arm fast bowler Mortaza stated Bangladesh’s strength has been batting in the away games. He further said such big knocks makes the win easier for the team while referring to Iqbal’s hundred.

“[Our strength playing abroad] has to be our batting. We wanted our batsmen to cross the 50 to 70-run mark and get a big score. It makes winning easier when someone does that,” Mortaza further added.

While throwing light on the winning momentum Mortaza stated while playing away has been the learning curve for the Tigers and it will help out in the upcoming fixtures before adding they had learned the lessons from the losses as well.

“We won the second Test and the first ODI here. We will improve slowly. Other teams also took time to win abroad. New Zealand was difficult for us but that experience will work for us here,” he said.

On the other hand, Mortaza expressed they would like to take a look at the wicket first before deciding the Playing XI for the second ODI.

“In the sub-continent you have to keep a lot of grass to make a wicket that suits the fast bowlers. We will have a look at the grass tomorrow, and whether they have watered it or not. We also have to find out if the wicket ends up as soft or hard,” Mortaza remarked.

However, Mortaza said the visitors would be ideal for batting before expressing they did not rely on winning combination like other teams.

“I think the wicket will be good for batting. The wicket tomorrow may be different, so we have to keep that in mind. We have always broken our winning combination against India and South Africa in 2015,” Smith concluded.

Mortaza has played 170 ODIs, 52 Twenty20 Internationals and 36 Tests for Bangladesh since making his debut in 2001.
