The Bangladesh all-rounder, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, who has been the centre of attraction from past four days, says that he idolises the former Indian off-spinner Ramesh Powar and terms him as his hero “Though I have never met him, Ramesh Power is my hero. I used to watch him play IPL matches on TV and took inspiration from him” he said.
Mehedi Hasan Miraz has been the talk of the town since he has made his Test debut for Bangladesh as the 18-year-old all-rounder grabbed a fifer on his Test debut, thus becoming fourth youngest bowler to claim a fifer on debut. Miraz led the Bangladesh U19 team to the semi-final stage of the World Cup played earlier this year.
He was one of the top performers of the tournament as he scored a total of 242 runs at an average of 60.50 in 6 games he played. In addition to that, he also scalped a total of 12 wickets. He was a complete package for rookies as he had every role to play in the squad and was also awarded the Player of the series award for his all-round performance.
He was the key behind pumping the Bangladesh squad and as a captain, he had everything that other player looks for in a captain. He led the team from the front and poured a magical performance all throughout the tournament.
On October 20, he was handed over the Test cap which was a big boost for him as many teams do not take ‘risk’ of fast forwarding a player to senior level at such a fast pace. The risk paid off, in the end, he emerged as the bowling star for Bangladesh in the first innings of the game, “It was because the captain (Mushfiqur Rahim) had faith in me. I was also encouraged by the senior members of the team and special thanks to Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan for their kind words” he said.
“I feel very nice to say getting inspiration from my bowling“I heard he was also a captain of the Under-19 team”.
“I heard he was also a captain of the Under-19 team”. “I have never met him but the world is now a small place and wishes to meet him on any day,
“I will tell him how to involve with modern cricket and learn new tricks with the ball,” said the former Indian spinner.
Ramesh Powar, a veteran of 148 first-class games and 113 List A games played a total of 2 Test and 31 ODI’s for India. He retired from domestic cricket last year making his final appearance for Gujarat in Ranji Trophy.
Powar was quite famous for his stylish glasses, pink one being the favourite one for his fans.
