KFC Big Bash League franchise Melbourne Stars skipper David Hussey has announced his retirement from cricket after losing the semi-final match by seven wickets against Perth Scorchers at the WACA on Wednesday.
“It’s a bit raw at the moment, a bit emotional. Just wait and see what happens,” Hussey was quoted as saying by Cricket.com.au.
The right-handed batsman seemed uncertain about his future in Australia’s lucrative domestic Twenty20 league BBL before terming the semi-final loss as a ‘bad dream’.
Hussey took to micro-blogging site Twitter to announce about his retirement:
Yes, the end.I simply can't do the things I want to do anymore & me playing is stopping younger players from achieving! Had a blast. #thanks https://t.co/F41wYwiTue

Hussey, who made his international appearance in T20I in February 2008 against India at Melbourne, had a poor run in BBL this season as he scored just 137 runs at an average of 17.12 in nine outings for Stars.
“It was like a bad dream, really. You’re not going to win too many games of cricket, let alone T20 cricket, at 4-20 after seven overs,” Hussey told SEN radio.
The 39-year-old led his side to the BBL final last year and semi-final this season in his two seasons as a skipper before calling it a day.
“(I’m) pretty disappointed, pretty flat. We didn’t play the brand of cricket or the style of cricket we wanted,” Hussey remarked.
Hussey’s teammate and former England batsman Kevin Pietersen took to Instagram after Stars skipper announced his retirement.
“Lastly, to the special David Hussey who is in this pic (photograph). I’m so happy I got play in your final game! You have been absolutely sensational on and off the field continuing on from our Notts days!,” the right-handed batsman Pietersen posted on Instagram.

“I spoke to the boys quietly last night. I don’t really like to try and make too much of a deal of it,” Hussey explained.
Hussey played 69 ODIs and 39 T20Is for the national side, where he has amassed 1,796 runs and 756 respectively.
In the Indian Premier League, Hussey played for three different franchises which included Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings.
Since 2011, the Western Australia-born Hussey appeared in 48 matches for Stars in BBL, and scored 855 runs at an average of 26.71.
