Michael Bevan to coach Madurai franchise in TNPL

Former Australian cricketer Micheal Bevan is named as the head coach for Madurai Super Giants franchise for the inaugural edition of Tamil Nadu Premier League. The franchise representatives have officially announced the appointment of Bevan in the player draft ceremony that was conducted in Chennai on Saturday.

The much-talked league will have eight franchises which are based on eight different cities across Tamil Nadu namely Lyca Kovai Kings (Coimbatore), Madurai Super Giants (Madurai), Tuti Patriots (Thoothukudi), Dindigul Dragons (Dindigul), Chepauk Super Gillies (Chennai), Kancheepuram, Thiruvalluvar and Karaikudi as they compete against each other for the ultimate glory.

The tournament was meant to bring out talented players from Tamil Nadu and make them get exposed to experienced players which could help in their development.

Madurai Super Giants which fetched the fourth highest bid for a little above 4 crores by Kothari (Madras) International Limited have opted to go for one of the best finishers in the entire cricket history, Michael Bevan as their head coach.

“Bevan comes in with rich international experience and it’s a bonus to have a cricketer of such repute as our coach,” said Rafiq, representative of the franchise.

Michael Bevan is expected to be in India in the next two weeks as the tournament will kick-start in the later half of August. Asked about the composition of support staff, Rafiq said: “We were having discussions with others as well.”

Bevan has previously coached IPL side Kings XI Punjab and has been pursuing coaching career as he has worked with a number of teams so far.
