On the evening of January 4, India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni announced he is stepping down from the post of captaincy but claimed that he would be available for the limited-overs series against England. His decision to step down did come as a shock to the nation and also for the cricketing fraternity, to say the least.
Many great skippers, who played alongside him or even witnessed him lead his country to massive heights, applauded his decision to quit captaincy, saying he has done ocean good to Men-in-Blue in limited-overs in past and believed it’s the right time for the poster boy of India, Virat Kohli to take the baton and lead India across all formats.
Michael Clarke, former Australian skipper, showered praise on MS Dhoni for his contribution, saying he is one the greatest Indian captain and believes a lot is left to be done before he plans to retire from international cricket.
I think @msdhoni will go down as one of India’s most successful captains. He is a great man and still has a lot to offer Indian cricket.

This wasn’t all, the right-handed batsman has also suggested who should shoulder the responsibility of leading India in limited-overs format. Not to everyone’s surprise, Clarke pointed towards Virat Kohli, who is currently the Test captain of Indian team, to now take the baton and captain across all formats.
Having played two Test matches against Virat Kohli in the 2014/15 tour, Michael Clarke knows a thing or two about the flamboyant batsman. After Virat’s 144 in the second innings of Adelaide Test, Clarke then said, ‘Virat’s innings is possibly the best I have seen recently‘.
Suggesting Virat’s name to be MS Dhoni’s successor in ODIs and T20Is, Clarke said he is a superstar and looks set to take up the challenge.
It is now time for @imVkohli to captain all three forms in my opinion. He is a superstar and is ready for the challenge.

With the decision to make on who will be the next Indian captain and also pick the limited-over squad for England series, Indian selectors have a workload under their nose to take care of.
