“I Might Open The Innings If The Situation Demands” Says Virat Kohli

Choosing the best opening pair for the Indian team will be one of the biggest conundrum to solve for Virat Kohli when they will be up against the visitors in the first of the three-match T20 game against England at Kanpur on January 26. Indian team have a total of three prospects as an opener in form of Mandeep Singh, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. In all possibilities, KL Rahul is set to open the innings and it will be a competition between Rishabh Pant and Mandeep Singh for that one spot.

While Rishabh Pant seems to be the deserving candidate, it is the experience of Mandeep Singh that will work in his favour. Any decision to solve this issue will be taken ahead of the game but skipper Virat Kohli created a sensation by saying that if situation demands, then he himself might come to open the innings,

“There are all kind of possibilities. In IPL you do not have any Indian players to play for in terms of the batsman. Here you have best fo the lot. So we have to figure out who fits in where. We have a lot of option, which is a good thing. SO whatever creates the best balance for us, we can g in with that. I have only opened in only one T20 game for India till now, I have;t opened much for India but I have the expense of opening in the IPL so. So as I said, if need, I might open or might not open, depending upon the balance of the side. So there is all kind of possibilities.”

Kohli surely may not take a risk to open the innings as he is the nucleus of batting line up, around which team India revolves. If he fails to score at the top, then Indian team may not get to the required total. Still, nothing can be said about the opening combination and a half hour period before the game will reveal this mystery.
