Barbados fast bowler Miguel Cummins included in the West Indies team as fast bowler Jerome Taylor, 31, announced his retirement from Test cricket. Cummins has been included in the team as the 13th man in the squad. The first Test of the four-match series will start on July 21 at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, in St John’s.
Cummins is expected, to find his place in the playing XI as Jerome Taylor will not be available for the selection. Taylor announced his retirement after his name was included in the squad for the first Test.
Cummins in the last Test series in Australia was included in the squad as a replacement of Shannon Gabriel. The Barbados bowler Cummins didn’t play any competitive match since March this year.
But in his last match for Barbados, he took two wickets conceding 30 runs and 1 for 20 as Barbados defeated the Leeward Islands by an innings and 93 runs in the domestic first class competition.
Overall, in his career he has taken 116 wickets in 41 first class matches at 22.56 averages with best figures of 7 for 45 and five wickets in an innings five times.
Cummins has played one-off ODI match against Ireland at Sabina Park in Kingston in March 2014, when he finished with figures of 1 for 42 from six overs.
Visitors India will play the first Test on July 21. India have played one warm-up the match at Warner Park and the second match will start on Thursday.
India will play this series under the captaincy of Virat Kohli and recently appointed Indian coach Anil Kumble has already started working with the Indian team.
BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) member Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman, and Sachin Tendulkar were at the panel. They kept their trust on their former teammate Anil Kumble.
But Sourav Ganguly left the interview panel when Ravi Shastri came online to give his interview citing he has CAB meeting.
Ganguly’s absence made Shastri angry as he blasted Ganguly in the media. But Ganguly too lambasted Shastri for crying foul in his absence during the later’s interview.
However, BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke asked both Ganguly and Shastri to stop the brawl.
Miguel Cummins was included in the team and his inclusion will help West Indies as he is a genuine bowler.
