Mitchell McClenaghan Congratulates Rohit Sharma After Being Named as the Indian Skipper for the Limited Overs Series Against Sri Lanka

India has been playing non-stop cricket for quite a long time now and especially captain Virat Kohli hasn’t got any rest what so ever in the recent past.

India is slated to tour South Africa next year and is scheduled to play 3 Tests, 6 ODI’s and 3 T20I’s. The team management, considering the cramped schedule, decided to give Virat Kohli a break for the limited overs series against Sri Lanka which will be played after the conclusion of the ongoing Test series.

India’s limited overs opener Rohit Sharma will lead the side in the absence of Kohli. It will be the very first time Rohit will lead India. Despite not captaining India, Rohit has been a veteran skipper in the Indian Premier League and is the most successful captain of the competition.

Under his leadership, the Mumbai Indians lifted the IPL title thrice the most recent being the one played in 2017. His Mumbai teammate Mitchell McClenaghan congratulated him and shared a picture of the two with a caption, “When you find out your Boy @rohitsharma45 gets to live his dream of captaining India.”

With the sort of form, India is in the absence of Virat Kohli shouldn’t matter as there are many other players who can step up to the role in his absence. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan on their day can put any bowling line-up to the sword. The middle order is a bit fragile, but it shouldn’t matter especially against a weak team like Sri Lanka who was recently whitewashed 5-0 by Pakistan.

The 1st ODI is slated to be played at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on 10th December while the final match of the T20I series will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on 24th December. India will fly to South Africa on 27th December with 1st Test scheduled to begin on 5th January.
