Making his return to the Test squad after an injury, the Australian spearhead Mitchell Starc has announced his arrival in style and has straightaway registered his name in the record books by shattering few records with his unplayable fast bowling. The moment Starc dismissed Kusal Mendis earlier today; he became the bowler to take most number of wickets by a non-Asian pace bowler in Asia surpassing the record of overtook Richard Hadlee of New Zealand who achieved this record in the year 1984 against Sri Lanka.
• Most number of wickets by a non-Asian pace bowler in Asia
Mitchell Starc 24 wickets
Richard Hadlee 23 wickets
Brett Schultz 20 wickets
Richard hadlee18 wickets
Kenneth Benjamin 17 wickets
Mitchell Starc now has 24 wickets to his name in the current series whereas Hadlee had 23 scalps to his name. Starc broke the 32 years old record. In fact currently, he is the highest wicket-taker in this series with 24 wickets to his name. The Herath is on the second position in this list with 21 wickets to his name till now.
It’s a real surprise to see Starc topping the list as conditions here are known for supporting so spinners, the stats shows the same but Starc has emerged as a spark surprise in the series. There has never been an innings till now when Starc has not taken a wicket in the first five overs of the game, this fact is enough to tell that how much he have dominated the opening batsmen. Surely if he continues to perform like this then no one can stop him from becoming next big thing in international cricket.
