Moeen Ali hopes England don’t repeat similar mistakes

After literally getting out of jail in the first ODI at Mirpur, England couldn’t repeat their heroics in the second game against Bangladesh. Powered once again by a fine bowling display by the young Jake Ball, England did really well in order to restrict the hosts to an under par score that should have been chased down. With the likes of Jason Roy and Jos Buttler in the ranks, England should have got home.

However, there was a complete batting collapse as Mashrafe Mortaza and Shakib Al Hasan were just too good for the visitors with the new ball. Buttler provided hope with his resilient half-century, but once Taskin Ahmed was reintroduced, it was just a matter of time before England collapsed. Ahead of the third ODI on Wednesday, England all-rounder Moeen Ali admitted that he wouldn’t want his side to repeat the same mistakes as the second game.

“I think the most disappointing thing was that we batted a little bit like the old England for the first time in a couple of years,” Ali said in his interaction with the press. “That’s more disappointing, the way we lost. We would rather lose the game playing the way we played in the last two years. So hopefully tomorrow we can play the way we have been batting and not just throw our wickets away. It was a decent pitch to bat on.”

Reflecting on England’s batting display in the second game, Ali said, “We just took a small step back, it wasn’t as bad as probably the way Bangladesh batted in the first game. But these things can happen when you are chasing. We didn’t play the way we can play,” he said. “We played like we played almost back in the day.”

“We are used to this weather. Some of the guys had a hit, some guys have gone indoors,” Moeen added. “It is more of a mental preparation. Some guys batted well last game so preparation-wise, we are fine,” the all-rounder said about the humid conditions.

“We are a different side now than we were before. I know the last game we didn’t bat well,” Moeen said. “Bangladesh are good at home anyway, any ground at home. It just eggs us on to score big runs and win.”It’s going to be a tough game for us we know that, they should have probably won the first game they let us off a little bit. We still have our best to come,” he signed off.
