The day after criticism from Mohammad Hafeez and Kevin Pietersen, the tainted 23-year-old Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has taken four wickets in the first Bangladesh Premier League match between Chittagong Vikings and Rangpur Riders today (November 22) at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla cricket stadium.
For Amir, it was the first opportunity to rub shoulders with international cricketers after serving five years of suspension from international cricket.
Amir was on a hat-trick twice in the match. He conceded 30 runs in 4 overs. He is playing for Chittagong Vikings. In the third over of the innings, Amir has taken the wicket of Lendl Simmions and Soumya Sarkar.
But, for Amir probably the sweetest wicket was the Pakistan Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq. In a thrilling match, Amir once again rattled Rangpur Riders’ chase taking the wicket of Thisara Perera and Misbah-ul-Haq in the 19th over. Misbah and Perera have built an 80 run partnership. But, when everything was looking easy for Rangpur Riders Amir sent both of them back. But, Darren Sammy’s 7 balls 18 have snatched way the match from Chittagong Vikings.
The Chittagong Vikings has scored 187 runs in 20 overs. Rangpur Riders while chasing the target hobbled as Amir and his new ball partner Taskin Ahmed rattled them 22 for 3.
At the beginning and in the end Amir two hat-trick chances brought the thrill back in the match.
Amir, who was 18 at the time of match fixing in 2010 Lord’s Test, was facing criticism from in and outside of his country Pakistan. Mohammad Hafeez said he declined to play in Bangladesh Premier League because he did not want to play with Mohammad Amir. The controversial England cricketer Kevin Pietersen also advocated that Amir should not be allowed to play in international cricket.
But, the Pakistan Cricket Board, allowed the pacer to play in domestic cricket. Amir can be considered for team selection if he performs well in domestic cricket. But, many Pakistan cricketers opposed the idea as they don’t want to play with Amir and two other tainted duo-Salman Bhatt and Mohammad Amir.
Meanwhile, Misbah-ul-Haq was adjudged man of the match for his 39 ball match winning 61 run innings for Rangpur Riders.
