On Wednesday, Ranchi transport department said that India’s limited-over captain MS Dhoni will have to pay a fine for mistaken registration of Hummer as Scorpio.
According to the Hindustan Times (HT), Dhoni will pay Rs. 1.5 lakhs as 15-year registration fees for his imported Hummer H2 vehicle. Hummer costs at least thrice the price of a Scorpio, so the registration value is also higher than Scorpio. Dhoni’s imported Hummer’s value is 43 lakhs.
Ranchi district transport officer Nagendra Paswan said, “The current value of the car is about Rs.43 lakh. The payment of Rs.1,59,804 would give lifetime registration to Dhoni’s vehicle.”
However, the officials didn’t announce the amount of fine which Dhoni will have to pay.
On March 21, Dhoni’s representative handed over the important documents of the vehicle to the district transport office. There was an invoice, registration card, insurance papers and owner manual, among the important documents.
Though there was the customs papers of the vehicle were missing which delayed the process. On Wednesday, the transport department received the customs papers and proceeded with the calculations.
The invoice from 2008 quotes the price of the vehicle number (JH01AB 7781) as 39,000 pounds. The official who collected the document said that the price would be converted to rupees as per the current currency value.
Paswan said, “During online updating in 2012, the Hummer changed to a Scorpio, which was a typing error. We will rectify it.”
MS Dhoni is well-known for passionate about bikes but he also has a big collection of imported cars. Before this, in 2015, Dhoni was also fined of Rs. 450 by the Ranchi traffic police for wrong display of number plate in one of his bikes.
