Former and most successful Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is ineligible to cast a vote or even contest elections in the state-cricket body Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) for not being a permanent member.
“It will be an honour for us to have Dhoni as a permanent member,” the JSCA President Amitabh Choudhary said.
The JSCA has stated Dhoni is currently playing for the national side and they’re not taking anything away from him.
The Ranchi-born 35-year-old Dhoni is also an honorary member of the Jharkhand Cricket Association after shaping up cricket in state before bringing laurels to the nation.
“Honourary membership is a mark of respect. What he (Dhoni) has done for Indian cricket cannot be measured. I don’t understand why there is hullabaloo over his honorary membership,” added Choudhary.
However, Dhoni won’t be a part of the decision making process in the state after mentoring the home side Ranji team Jharkhand this year.
According to the reports, lawyers, businessmen and bureaucrats have also been inducted as the permanent members of the cricket association in Jharkhand state in recent past.
While expressing unhappiness, JSCA member Suresh Kumar has stated Dhoni is the only deserving candidate following his significant contributions.
“If anybody in India deserves a place in the JSCA on the basis of contribution to the game, it is Dhoni,” remarked Kumar.
Former JSCA member Sunil Singh has alleged that some high-ranked members are trying to include their relatives and colleagues to continue their control in the state board.
“Jharkhand Ranji players like Pradeep Khanna and Adil Hussain have not been allowed to be a part of the JSCA, while businessmen and prominent personalities who have no knowledge of the game are enjoying the membership,” revealed Sunil.
The wicket-keeper batsman is the lone Indian skipper to have bagged three International Cricket Council’s major trophies during his outstanding tenure.
The prolific leader has also played a vital role in Jharkhand’s team – to qualify for their first semi-final in Ranji Trophy season of 2016-17.
Dhoni is also the brand ambassador for maiden Global Investors’ Summit, which will be held in Jharkhand’s Ranchi from February 16 and 17.
