The buzz surrounding the ever lucrative Indian Premier League has peaked all of a sudden in the last couple of days, thanks mainly to the reemergence of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) back into the league.
The two sides were fan favourites, and especially the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings, which was among the most successful T20 franchises of all time. With a unique record of making it to the playoffs in each edition, the Super Kings by far was the heartbeat of the competition.
Tragedy struck the two teams in July 2015, when the Supreme Court appointed Lodha Panel banned the franchises for two years, on accounts of their respective owners being proven guilty of corrupt activities. Thereby, members of the sides were separated, taking refuge in different teams.
Now that the Super Kings are officially back, fans of MS Dhoni, in particular, are having a ball. To make the matter far more interesting, Dhoni, barely a couple of hours ago, uploaded a picture of himself on Instagram, where he is seen wearing a yellow coloured jersey, much to the resemblance of the Super Kings jersey. Along with that, his apparel mentions the word “Thala”, which means leader in Tamil.
If signs are anything to go by, come summer 2018, and we could all see the return of captain cool MS Dhoni.
IPL chairperson Rajiv Shukla too confirmed the comeback of the two teams recently.
“It is my privilege to welcome back our franchisees, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, into the 11th edition of the IPL. We have had a strong working relationship with Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals and hope that we can continue to build upon the close ties that we have enjoyed in the past, as we move towards the next edition of the league.”
