Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni’s turbulent relationship is well known to fans. In fact, if rumours are something to go  by then the Delhi batsman is out of the team for such a long time only due to his bad relationship with Dhoni and so when he got  a chance against the Indian skipper he made sure to troll him to the fullest.

The incident happened during this year’s  Indian Premier League match between Rising Pune Supergiants and Kolkata Knight Riders.

Dhoni stepped into the field in the 11th over, with Pune struggling at 74/4. Piyush Chawla’s spin was proving to be too hot to handle, and Kolkata skipper Gambhir spotted an opportunity to increase the pressure even more. He went back to a ploy he has used several times before with Dhoni – he set an aggressive field placements for the batsman by surrounding him with fielders.

This is how the fielding placement looked when Dhoni walked in to bat:

Gambhir  stationed himself at silly point and had two slips and placed a short leg for his Pune counterpart. The aggressive field placing perhaps worked for the KKR as Gambhir’s bowlers managed to keep MS Dhoni calm. Dhoni scored only 8 runs off 31 balls he faced.

Well such tactics was not introduced by Gambhir for the first time as in previous years also he was seen setting an aggressive field whenever Dhoni came to bat.
Here is the proof:

Dhoni’s weakness against spin is well known and Gambhir might have wanted to exploit it but who knows what else was in his mind.

But just like the millions out there i did not put in the hard work needed to achieve my dream and now i have become a fan instead of the player. Anyway, writing for sports has kept me closer to this field. One more thing, yours sincerely is a die-hard Liverpool fan. You will never walk alone.
