Murali Vijay, Ravichandran Ashwin Set To Play Ranji Trophy 2016/17 Quarterfinals

Indian cricketers Murali Vijay and Ravichandran Ashwin have been the cornerstones for the national team and are willing to take the similar role in their state’s side as they are likely to play for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy 2016/17 Quarterfinals.

Ranji Trophy is the most popular and prestigious tournament in Indian domestic circuit and Tamil Nadu are keen to use the services of their star players in a bid to reach the semi-finals of the tournament.

Tamil Nadu will face Karnataka in quarters. Karnataka arguably boasts the most talented squad in the tournament with the likes of Robin Uthappa, Karun Nair, Stuart Binny, Aravind and Vinay Kumar besides in-form KL Rahul in their ranks. The two sides will clash at ACA-VDCA stadium in Visakhapatnam on December 23 and the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) chief N Srinivasan hopes the duo would be available for the game.

Ravichandran Ashwin will travel to Dubai after the ongoing Chennai Test but the former BCCI president Srinivasan has revealed the off-spinner will be back in time to participate in the tough battle with Karnataka.

“Ashwin is going to Dubai to attend the inauguration of an academy the day after the Test ends but will be back in time for the Ranji quarterfinal,” said the TNCA Chief.

Both Murali Vijay and Ravichandran Ashwin will be a part of Indian squad until December 20 as the Test series ends in Chennai post which the Indian team will have a 25-day rest period before they clash against England in ODI and T20I series. It remains to be seen whether selectors decide to rest Ashwin for the limited-overs series as he remains a crucial member for the Australia Test series in February-March 2017.
