Murali Vijay’s Participation In The TNPL Remains Under Cloud

The Story

Test specialist Murali Vijay was forced to miss India’s tour of Sri Lanka after suffering a wrist injury that took nearly four months to heal. After undergoing a surgery in London, Vijay was racing against time to recover and make himself fully fit for Sri Lanka’s tour.

However, the selectors advised him to take rest after it was reported that he still felt pain in his wrist during his comeback match in the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) first division league.

However, his fellow Tamil Nadu opener, Abhinav Mukund replaced him in the XI.

Back in the Fold Again

The 33-year-old recently made another attempt to prove his fitness with a complete net session with the Tamil Nadu Premier League side Kovai Kings.

According to the Times of India, Vijay spent 30 minutes in the session at the MA Chidambaram Stadium and faced the local bowlers, K Vignesh, fast bowler and M. Mohammed, a spinner.

J Syed Mohammed, the skipper of Kovai Kings, spoke about the same and said,

“A lot depends on how he feels about himself. But from what we see he is shaping up well. Last year he did play a couple of games for us, so this time (depending on fitness) he could well join us in the latter half.”

It seems highly unlikely that Vijay will immediately turn up for the Kovai side in their upcoming match on Saturday against Chepauk Super Gillies.

However, skipper Mohammad has indicated that Vijay may take part in the latter half of the tournament after passing the fitness tests.

Vijay avoided making any statements about his return to the field.
