Muttaih Muralitharan, the highest wicket taker in the history of the Test cricket is all set to play the second innings of his cricketing career.  He will be working as a spin consultant with the Australian National team and has already joined the team. He will be closely working with the off spinners and especially Nathan Lyon.

This has come just after Australian management decided to import soil from India to make practice pitches similar to the ones  in sub continent. Australian team has not fard well in sub continent and now when the team has regained the number 1 status , they need to improve their performance in the sub continent.

This move comes in the wake of their next tour against Pakistan where they will face a spin heavy attack led by Saeed Ajmal.

“I’m very much excited; I know the Australian team is a very good side, but hopefully I can have a little bit of input to help them do well in the series against Pakistan,” Muralidaran said. He added that Ajmal is a difficult guy to handle but he bowls similar to me and this is where I can help the Australian team.

But the irony is that Muralitharan is the part of the set up which has always raised questions over his bowling action  and the current coach Darren Lehman was once banned even on the account of racial abusing.

Coach Darren Lehman said that he is the leading wicket taker in Test cricket and having him in our set up is always an advantage.

“It gives our batters a real chance to experience those sort of conditions, how to play that type of bowling with Murali coming on board but also to help Nathan develop his skills, Darren Lehman added.
