Never Giving Up Is My Attitude, Says Yuvraj Singh On His Comeback

World Cup hero, a batting great and a ‘pie-chucker’, India’s stalwart Yuvraj Singh made his return to the Indian side for the England series, starting January 15. The selection committee led by MSK Prasad named Virat Kohli as the captain of team, after MS Dhoni stepped down from the post on January 4.

Speaking to bcci.tv about his return to the side after three long years to ODIs, Yuvraj said his never giving up attitude has kept him hungry for more cricket on the bigger stage. Once a cancer patient, Yuvraj last played an ODI in December 2013 against South Africa, and since then has been out of the team. He, however, was included in India’s squad for the World T20 event in India in March last year.

The 2011 World Cup hero for India, who amassed 362 runs and scalped 15 wickets in the tournament, wasn’t picked up for the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, where India went down fighting against Australia in the semi-finals.

Talking about hardships he has gone through, Yuvi said the phase was tough but he never backed out from working hard and making his hard yards count in the domestic circuit.

“It’s tough when you go through a period like this in your life when you don’t know where your life is going. I think you’ve just got to keep working hard and believe that one day you will come back to the place you belong.”

Like his billions fans across the country, Yuvraj is also hopeful of making it big this time around, saying opportunity doesn’t knock his door everyday. With age running out of his favour, Yuvraj said he keeps practicing and works hard to stay himself fit and is now rearing to go for his gifted second innings.

“Never giving up is my attitude. Things can always change in a matter of a very short time and I’ve had a lot of ups and downs and I’ve learnt to keep bouncing back from it. Hopefully, I can come back to where I belong.”

India will face England in two practice matches before the first One -Day in Pune on January 15th in Pune.
