In its annual meeting on the 9th of November, the BCCI announced several things. One major matter of discussion was that the supreme cricketing body of India has named six new test venues in India.
The BCCI has made it abundantly evident that it is serious about enhancing the base and fan following of test cricket in India. In what can be termed as a pro active measure, the BCCI has even given test status to venues that are in remote parts.
The six new test venues in India are Ranchi, Pune Indore, Visakhapatnam, Dharamsala and Rajkot. While Ranchi has hosted just 3 ODI’s, giving it a test status is a great move indeed. Doing so will only stimulate interest within the fans of Ranchi, who will get to see more of test cricket. The Maharashtra Cricket Association stadium in Pune was named as a venue as well.
Indore and Rajkot, that recently hosted ODI’s in the India – South Africa series have been named as potential test venues as well. But the icing on the cake has been the inclusion of Dharamsala, which is said to have the best wicket in India. Test cricket in the picturesque venue of Dharamsala would definitely be a good thing.
Meanwhile, Shashank Manohar also spoke about the prospect of playing Pakistan and said, “We will have to talk to the Indian government regarding playing Pakistan.”
