Fifties from skipper Kane Williamson and Jeet Raval helped New Zealand end Day 2 of the first Test against South Africa at 177/3.
Resuming at 229/4, overnight centurion Dean Elgar and Temba Bavuma looked good in first hour but Neil Wagner broke the partnership and Black Caps got a chance to rattle the visitors early.
Bavuma soon completed his fifth Test half-century. Trent Boult soon was back to his best as he picked up three wickets including Bavuma, Keshav Maharaj and Vernon Philander and finished the innings with four wickets. South Africa could only add 79 runs and got bundled out for 308.
For New Zealand, the start was not so good as they lost their opening batsman Tom Latham to Philander. Jeet Raval, once again, took full advantage of the opportunity to impress once again and he rightly did so. He scored a half-century before falling to Keshav Maharaj.
Kane Williamson yet again proved a high price wicket for Proteas. Currently, he is batting on 78 runs, with 131 runs behind South Africa’s score.
