New Zealand won the 2nd Test match by 193 runs, thanks to the efforts of Kane Williamson after Sri Lanka were bundled out for just 196 runs in their 4th innings. With this win, New Zealand won the 2 match series 2-0.

Coming into the 5th day, New Zealand needed to pick 9 wikcets . With the pitch getting flatter, the task was never going to be easy for the Kiwis. The Kiwis pacer were unable to extract out any movement of the pitch but they continued to bowl a good line and length , which did put pressure on the Sri Lankan batsman.

The Kiwi pacers, Southee, Bracewell and Trent Boult did the initial damage befor Mark Craig ran through the lower order. Kumar Sangakkara was troubled by the way Kaushal Silva was playing and it brought a false shot out of him , leading to his dismissal. The catch was taken but not many were confident but McCullum had other ideas and he got the benefit out of the referral , when umpire’s decision was over turned and Sangakkara was declared out. Silva was just blocking evry delivery and it raised New Zealand’s confidence as the chances of Sri Lanka chasing down the total was virtually taken out of the equation.

The next big blow for Sri Lanka cam when their captain , Angelo Matthews, the saviour of the England series , was caught brilliantly by Kane Williamson of Doug Bracewell. Kane Williamson latched onto the ball on the second attempt. With Matthews gone , Sri Lanka were almost out of the match and Mark Craig ran past the lower order to help New Zealand win the match by 193 runs.

Sri Lanka was dismissed for 196 runs and only Lahiru Thirimanne showed some sort of resistance and remained 62 not out.  Mark Craig picket 4 wickets for New Zealand. Bracewell and Boult picked 2 wickets each and Southee picked a wicket.
