The newly appointed team India’s Head Coach, Ravi Shastri, has said that Indian skipper Virat Kohli is yet to reach his peak and upcoming years will define real Virat Kohli,
“Kohli is a champion cricketer – he has not yet reached his peak. The next five or six years will define the real Virat Kohli. I have not spoken to Kohli (yet). I don’t know what happened in those 12 months. I will start afresh. Whatever I have to discuss with Virat will stay between Virat and me,” Shastri told India Today.
His comments have come just a day after he was appointed as the Head Coach of Indian cricket team. Along with him, Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan were too named for the job of Indian dressing room.
While Dravid’s role is restricted to batting consultant that too on foreign Test tours, Zaheer has been given the role of bowling coach of team India for next two years. (Read Here: 15 Players Wanted Ravi Shastri As Head Coach)
The success of team India heavily depends upon Shastri and Zaheer, as Dravid will not be a permanent man in the team due to his other commitments with India A and U-19 side.
The 2019 World Cup is just two years away and the tournament will be played in England, a place where a batsman is put under real test. Of course, team India will need experience at the back and Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni are the two experienced players in the Indian line-up at present. On being asked about the role of these two in 2019 World Cup, Shastri said that he will look at what is there in the bag for their future,
“I will say MS Dhoni and Yuvraj are champions cricketers. 2019 World is still a long way to go and we have to see that how the things pan out till then,” Shastri added.
It has given a clear indication that one who will perform will find his name on the team list. In Shastri’s last stint only, Dhoni retired from Test cricket due to poor record on overseas soil and this time again, the pressure can lead to few of the seniors quitting the job or losing their place in the Indian team.
