With No Hopes Of International Combeback, Subramaniam Badrinath Decides To Give First-Class Season A Miss

With no hopes of a comeback in the international circuit, the Indian batsman Subramaniam Badrinath has decided to give the upcoming first-class season a miss. The gritty batsman announced his decision on sidelines of TNPL, where he is set to captain Karaikudi Kaalai in the second edition of the T20 league,

“I have got some offers but I don’t think I will be playing this year. I have taken that call. I am just going to play TNPL (Tamil Nadu Premier League) and let’s see,” he said.

“In all probability, I will not be playing first-class cricket. It has been a long time since I have made my debut, I haven’t had any break since then. It has been continuous first-class cricket. It was challenging, there was a lot of travel. Realistically, I don’t have a chance to play international cricket or IPL. Having said that, it is a personal decision. I don’t feel like I have to keep going on and on. It was more of a personal decision rather than anything else. I have a young family, an eight-year-old daughter,” Badrinath added.

Badrinath, who made his Test debut against South Africa in the Nagur in 2010, played just two Test matches for India. Though he made his ODI debut in 2008, but could only represent the nation in six more ODIs. On India tour of West Indies in 2011, Badrinath got a chance to play a T20I as well, where he played an innings of 43. (Read Here: Not Yet Signed Up BCCI: Bharat Arun)

His international numbers may not be impressive but he was the fulcrum for Tamil Nadu in his 14 years of service to the state. Before the start of the 2014/15 season, Badrinath made a switch to Vidarbha as a professional player and led the side for two years, which had a veteran like Wasim Jaffer. After two years, he decided to shift his base to Hyderabad, where he performed the role of a mentor. He was expected to be there with the team for this season as well but the domestic veteran has decided to give the upcoming first-class season a miss, for so many reasons.

Badrinath was last called in the Indian team for the two Test series against New Zealand in the year 2012 after VVS Laxman announced his retirement from international cricket before the start of the series. Though he could not make a place in the playing XI.  Badrinath is yet to play an IPL game from past four seasons and hardly finds a buyer on the IPL auction day. Also, with the Indian international line-up overloaded with a bunch of talented boys, the decision of Badrinath to give the season a miss seems to be a wise one as this will open the doors for a new man in the Hyderabad team, who will get an opportunity to play far more games.

Badrinath will continue to play TNPL and will lead the Karaikudi Kaalai side in the upcoming edition of the league, that starts from July 22.
