New Zealand’s T20 Champions Northern Knights booked a place in the main round of the 2014 Champions League T20 with a 72 runs victory over Pakistani side Lahore Lions at Raipur. With this victory, the knights have got two victories in two matches which puts them the first team to qualify for the extravaganza.

The top heavy Lahore Batsmen had no chances against the Knights’ opening bowlers Tim Southee and Trent Boult as the duo exhibited an extraordinary display of seam bowling and reduced the Lions to 19-5 in 6 overs. Since then, it was just a mere formality for the Knights to finish off the proceedings and eventually cleaned up for 98 in 18 overs overs. Saad Nasim is the only Lions batsman to reach the double figures as he rwas the last batsman to get out on 58. Southee finished with a figures of 3-22 in 4 overs whereas Boult finished with figures of 2-12 in 3.5 overs.

Earlier put into bat, Knights rode on dual fifties from skipper Daniel Flynn and BJ Watling as both the batsmen scored 53 each. Their knock propelled the Knights to a total of 170-6 in 20 overs. Aziaz Cheema was the pick of the Lahore bowlers with figures of 3-35 in his four overs. Lahore face Southern Express on Tuesday to book a place in the main round whereas Knights lock horns with Mumbai Indians later that evening.
