Defending Champions League T20 Chmpions Mumbai Indians are knocked out of the qualifiers after failing to win against New Zealand’s Northern Knights in their final qualifier game. Mumbai, who went into the game needing a victory to qualify for the main round of CLT20 lost to Knights by 6 wickets. As a result of Mumbai’s loss, Pakistani Champions Lahore Lions, who defeated Southern Express earlier today has joined Northern Knights and eight direct entrants in the main round.
Kane Williamson‘s second half century of the qualifiers led Knights chase down the target of 133 in 2 overs to spare. His opening partner Anton Devicich played a supporting role before he was dismissed for 39 before Daryl Mitchell took the Knights home.
Put into bat Mumbai Indians managed a below par 132 on the board in their 20 overs courtesy some late hitting by Kieron Pollard, Lasith Malinga and Shreyas Gopal as their top order failed to cash in on the Knights’ bowling attack. The rest of the batsmen looked pathetic as they failed to set in and score runs. Scott Styris and Tim Southee accounted for three wickets each.
So with this, Lahore Lions will join Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Cape Cobras, Hobart Hurricanes in Group A whereas Knights will join Kings XI Punjab, Barbados Tridents, Perth Scorchers and Dolphins in Group B.
