ODI Series Against England Turning Point Of My Career: Kedar Jadhav

Kedar Jadhav, India middle-order batsman, has said his performance in the recently concluded ODI series against England has proved to be the turning point of his career.

The 31-year-old had made his debut in 2014 but he finally became a regular member in the playing eleven when he featured in all five ODIs against New Zealand at home in October 2016. However, he still needed a solid performance to prove his credentials and he did it in style against Eoin Morgan’s men.

With India in dire need of a good finisher, the right-handed batsman’s performance in all three matches will be a welcome relief for the Men in Blue.  Coming in at number six, Jadhav displayed his immense hitting potentials in all three matches against England. In the first match, he scored 120 off only 76 balls to help India chase down a mammoth 351 while in the third match, his 75-ball 90 took India agonisingly close to a win. In the second match, he did not get too many balls but scored 22 off only 10 balls to show the damage he can inflict on the opposition in the last few overs.

“After hitting the century against England in Pune, I thought if I continue with the same performance, there is a possibility of getting man of the series (award),” he told the media on Friday (January 27).

“I think the ODI series against England is the turning point of my cricketing career,” he added.

He said his performance against New Zealand had boosted his confidence. Jadhav did not have a very successful series with the bat as he scored only 90 runs in four outings but the faith shown by the team management in him might have done the trick.

“Though I did not score big, whatever runs I scored, it gave me immense confidence. Before this series (against England), I had a gut feeling that I will perform, and I think, for any player, having such a feeling is most important thing,” he said.

When asked about getting a call from the national team so late, he said:

“I got the opportunity late because I was not mature enough, there were flaws in my game. The moment I became accomplished player, I got the opportunity and I am happy that I could convert it (into success).”

Speaking on playing under new captain Virat Kohli, he said:

“He has always encouraged me to play my natural game. Just by seeing him preparing for the game and playing one gets immense inspiration.”

He also had a word of praise for Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s calm approach in pressure situations.

“He handles the pressure, faces the challenges and deals with the situation in a calm and composed manner,” Jadhav concluded.
