Ottis Gibson Delighted to Coach South Africa

The newly-appointed South African coach Ottis Gibson has expressed excitement to be the part of Proteas national side while revealing he is only focusing on the gentleman’s game, in a bid to make most out of a competitive unit.

“I’m here completely and totally for cricket and to produce a winning cricket team,” Gibson was quoted as saying by Sport24.

The 42-year-old Barbados-born Gibson believes a cricketing country like South Africa is looking forward to witnessing its national team reaching to greater heights.

“At the end of the day, that’s all the country wants, then it doesn’t matter what colour the coach is,” Gibson added.

The former Windies all-rounder Gibson is aiming to take the Proteas to a new high after the side struggled in England recently when Gibson was the deputy of the English chief coach Trevor Bayliss.

“If the challenges, for the most part, stay in the boardroom as much as possible, and if we can get stuck into the cricket, the potential to do something special is there,” Gibson asserted.

Gibson feels the hard work plays a significant role in the competition, as he believes the quality players are the massive prospect as he is excited to work alongside such players.

“When you strip away the challenges and focus on the cricket, there are very talented players and huge potential you can work with,” Gibson maintained.

It’s pertinent to mention, Gibson, who has been handed-over a two-year contract from Cricket South Africa (CSA), has spent quality time at his second-adopted home at Durham in England.

Gibson has also urged the CSA management to include the specialist in the coaching set-up.

“I’d like a specialist batting coach, fielding coach, spin bowling coach and a fast bowling coach,” Gibson maintained.

The successor of Russell Domingo adamant in approach Gibson believes he is optimistic to help the Proteas side in his full capacity, as he stated he is not worried about the upcoming challenges.

“I don’t see those things, it doesn’t bother me one bit,” Gibson concluded.

It’s expected that Gibson might take quality time in South Africa, to understand the niceties of the southern country in the African continent.

Gibson has a tremendous belief in the senior campaigners of the Proteas while adding the top-notch players are supposed to carry the youngsters all along which would further prove as a defining moment for the African cricket.

Gibson would be leading the pack as a head coach for the first two-match Test series which will kick start on September 28, as he would be expecting the side to come good against impressive Bangladesh.
