Pak v SL, 1st T20I Report: Batting Failure Leads To Massive Loss For Lankans

Sri Lanka’s struggle against a high-class bowling attack of Pakistan was once again in full light as they flunked massively with the bat to give a comfortable seven-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the first T20I at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi.

After failing to save themselves from a whitewash in the ODI-leg of the tour in a dreadful manner, also caused due to listless batting show, the Lankans were yet again pinned by opposition plainly with the help of challenging bowling display.

Usman Khan Shinwari

The six-man bowling attack all enjoyed a great day at work with Hasan Ali ending up as the most successful man with figures of 3/20 followed by Mohammad Hafeez’s spell of 2/10.

Usman Khan, who snapped up a record-breaking five–fer the other day, finished with 2/30 while Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan and Fahim Ashraf all shared a wicket each and set up the victory for their team.

The decision to bowl first seemed perfect for Sarfraz & Co. The downfall began in the very first over when Dilshan Munaweera lost his wicket off the 3rd ball of the innings. The early damage was enough to rattle the entire Lankan batting order and bowl them out for just 102 in 18.3 overs.

Pakistan faced a couple of hiccups at the start of the chase, losing Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam before the end of powerplay overs. This added a bit of spice to the contest making some feel that the match could probably see Lanka fightback.

However, Shoaib Malik (42 from 31 balls) along with Ahmed Shehzad (22 from 32 balls) and Mohammad Hafeez (25 from 23 balls) steadied the chase and finished the match without much delay and hassle.

Batting looked tough on the wicket which seemed more in favour of the bowlers. Pakistan made full use of the support to set themselves a low target, but things could have been more interesting had the Lankans applied themselves with a bit more sensibility to add up a functional total at least.

The early downfall of the Zaman and Azam indicated the pitch still had the juice to effect another batting disaster. The struggles of the match-winning trio – Shehzad, Malik and Hafeez – which followed up later also indicated the same thing.

But, the lack of runs on the board gave Pakistan a cushion to complete the chase with least amount of worries with six wickets in hands.

The two side will meet within almost 24 hours for the second T20I at the same venue.
