Pakistan-Afghanistan To Play Two-Match Twenty20 Series: Shaharyar Khan

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan on Saturday had made an announcement by stating Men in Green will face its neighbouring country Afghanistan, in a friendly two-match Twenty20 series in the foreseeable future.

The latest development took place when the octogenarian chief Shaharyar was speaking at a press conference in Lahore alongside his Afghan counterpart Atif Mashal, in a bid to strengthen the bilateral ties between both the countries on a cricketing front.

After leg-spin sensation Rashid Khan has been a revelation in the tenth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), the war-torn country has brought up a solid image in the field of cricket that Afghanistan Cricket Board Chairman Mashal would like to highlight in order to impress the international cricketers to play in Afghanistan.

“Pakistan will come to Afghanistan with a message of peace, friendship and brotherhood. And then our team will go to Pakistan for the same purpose,” Afghanistan Cricket Board Chairman Atif Mashal was quoted as saying by Express Tribune.

The reports suggested short-paced series is expected to be played either in Pakistan, Afghanistan or Sharjah. It’s pertinent to mention, both the boards are yet to reach out to the conclusion for the final dates as Pakistan and Afghanistan are busy with their respective international commitments.

However, the other report suggested one T20 will be played in Afghanistan followed by another in Pakistan.

Shaharyar during the press gathering expressed his concern while stating his cricket body would be aiming to help Afghanistan, in order to help them become the permanent member of the world cricket governing body International Cricket Council (ICC).

“We really value this relation. We really appreciate PCB’s support in the past,” Mashal added.

The other technical facilities would include trainers, umpires and coaches followed by a practical training to the pitch curators and biomechanics to test the young crop of bowlers and Shaharyar also want to hand a ground to the Afghans.

“Whether it is Rawalpindi, whether it is Peshawar, whether it is Quetta, they will decide after taking a look at the stadiums and whichever is more convenient, they will come and use that stadium as their own,” Shaharyar maintained.

While talking to the media persons, Shaharyar revealed he is expecting at least nine players are highly likely going to participate in the Afghanistan’s Twenty20 league as they would further nurse the budding talent.

“Pakistani coaches were with our team like Inzamam [Ul-Haq], Kabir Khan and Rashid Latif. They really contributed in the development of the Afghanistan national cricket team. Both boards will try our best to keep our relations positive,” Mashal concluded.

Shaharyar revealed the chance would also be given to A-teams followed by Under-16 teams – to play the series against regional teams of Afghanistan.
