Pakistan says ‘MS Dhoni- The Untold Story’ was not banned in the country

Earlier reports across the media has suggested that India’s most successful captain MS Dhoni bipoic- “MS Dhoni- The Untold Story” was banned in Pakistan due to the ongoing tensions between the two stories. However, the movie is not been imported into Pakistan for certification.

The Express Tribune has reported the recent update on the news that is heavily doing rounds in the social media by asking Chairperson of Central Board of Film Censors, Mobashir Hasan about the ban of the movie. He confirmed that the movie is yet to be submitted for certification.

Hasan said: “How can we ban a film that’s not been submitted for certification? The local distributors have not even applied for the NoC of the film. We certify every film keeping Pakistan’s integrity, security and sovereignty in mind. As per our rules and regulations, we try our best to take every decision on merit.”

When asked if any instructions were passed by the government about Indian movies, he said: “So far nothing has been communicated to us. We are working as per normal routine. Only last week, we approved Banjowithout suggesting a single cut, giving it a Universal rating.”

Sindh board of Film censors Secretary, Razzaq Khuhawar has said: “The Indian media is portraying it wrongly. We believe in competition as it helps improve the quality of Pakistani films as well. We haven’t been instructed to ban or censor films in the context of the hostile situation.

“We certified Banjo last week with a U rating but the audience didn’t like the film and it’s gradually being removed from screens. That’s the audience’s choice, not ours. We have not been directed to restrict any film.”

However, IMGC entertainment which holds the rights of the movie in Pakistan has confirmed that they have decided to not import the movie in the present situation due to the tensions between the two nations.

“We wouldn’t want to release anything that can aggravate the current situation of the two countries. Dhoni is India’s hero so it’s risky,” said Sabina Islam, Marketing director of IMGC entertainment.

MS Dhoni- The Untold Story is set to be released on 30th September on a grand scale as it is expected to be screened across 60 countries and in 4500 screens.
