Pakistan cricket has had some dark times in the recent past with a lot of controversies on and off the field. But the recent tour of Zimbabwe has brightened their name and the PCB wants to further strengthen cricket in the nation by starting a league next year.
The Pakistan Cricket Board was suggested by Repucom Consultants, to hold a five team league in the UAE next year. A private TV channel reported that the PCB wanted Repucom to devise a plan for the league.
The PCB wanted advice from Repucom in matters like when and where the tournament should be held, the number of teams participating, the risks involved and the ways to avoid them and also how the PCB can popularize and improve the marketability and sponsorship of the league.
Some of the Biggest sporting organizations in the world like the Seattle Seahawks, Melbourne FC, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Lakers, FC Barcelona, FC Bayern München, Manchester City, Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Arsenal, Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull Racing, Major League Baseball (MLB), England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), European Tour International, PGA Tour, NASCAR and Volvo Ocean Race SLU are all clients of the Repucom consultants.
They have also been involved with leading global brands in the world of sports. Adidas, Australian Tennis, Bundesliga, English Premier League, Australia Rugby and Australian Football are all closely associated with Repucom.
The idea of the league was twice rejected and postponed in the past. Zaka Ashraf rejected the idea in his tenure and Najam Sethi didn’t act quickly when he was in charge. However, the PCB now has speeded up its efforts to start hosting the league in the next year. The PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan, board’s executive committee head Sethi and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Subhan Ahmed are all keen on ensuring that the league takes place next year.
