Pakistan vs New Zealand: Fit-Again Mitchell Santner Replace Jimmy Neesham

Fit-again Mitchell Santner has made a comeback to the New Zealand squad for the second and final Test of the series replacing another all-rounder Jimmy Neesham, who will now play for his domestic side Otago in the Plunkett Shield. Santner suffered a wrist fracture during a practice session ahead of the Plunkett Shield game three weeks ago but now he is fit and has been named in the squad for the final Test. However, the availability fo Ross Taylor for the second Test is not yet confirmed,

“After such a strong tour of India, it’s really disappointing for Mitch to pick up this injury ahead of the first match of the home summer,” coach Mike Hesson said. “We’re unsure whether Mitch will be available for the second Test at this stage, but we’ll be monitoring his recovery closely and look forward to having him back.”

Mitchell Santner will provide depth to New Zealand team in every department of the game. The home side is already one up in the series by virtue of defeating Pakistan in the first match by a margin of eight wickets. The home team rode on brilliant performances from the debutants Jeet Raval and Colin de Grandhomme as first it was Grandhomme who toppled Pakistan batting line up taking six wickets in the first innings followed by one more wicket in the second one. Raval, on the other hand, contributed with the bat scoring half-century in the first innings followed by an unbeaten innings of 36.  It was a tough pitch to bat on where Raval hit the winning runs to finish off the game for New Zealand.

The second Test will start from November 25 at Seddon Park, Hamilton.
