List of Top-10 pairs with highest batting average while Chasing in ODIs

 

It is not easy chasing and when the team is chasing a huge total, then the task gets only tougher as there is additional pressure on the batting side. Recently, in the final group match against Zimbabwe, Dhoni and Raina played well together and their partnership made India win the match and stepped up for Team India.

In today’s stat we will take a look at stats of batting pairs with highest averages while chasing and quite a few Indian pairs make it to the list.

The pair of Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli tops the table with 1534 runs together while chasing, at average of 73.04 in 23 innings, in which 16 times the team has ended on the winning side. The best finishing pair of MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina is 3rd on the list as they have scored 1506 runs together at an average of 62.75. Gambhir and Kohli also hold the record for the 2nd highest partnership while chasing by scoring 224 runs after the 231* run partnership of Dilshan and Upul Tharanga .

The reason we have shown 11 pairs in the Top-10 is stat is because of the importance the number 11 pair holds. Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar have scored the most number of runs together while chasing, to be precise 4483 in 91 innings off which India have managed to win 50 of those. They have also put together 17 100-run partnership stands while chasing, a record that no one is even close.
