PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) chairman Shaharyar Khan is trying to resolve the problem by talking with the senior players over the issue of the tainted pacer Mohammad Amir. Two Pakistan senior cricketers, Mohammad Hafeez and Azhar Ali had refused to join the training camp yesterday due to the inclusion of tainted bowler Amir.
Khan said on the late night, “I have already had discussions with some players on Amir’s issues and we have tried to address concerns. I will again talk to Hafeez and Azhar and sort out this matter.”
Pakistan ODI captain Azhar Ali had told on Thursday that they don’t want to take part in a camp which includes Amir. He said, “I will not attend the camp as long as Amir is there. This is my decision and we are open to discussing with the PCB.”
Hafeez also commented that he is not willing to return to the camp till the tainted bowler was there.
Hafeez and Azhar attended camp in the morning session but didn’t join with the whole squad. They just did their individual training and then left the camp. The camp has been set up for the upcoming tour to New Zealand in January.
Shaharyar Khan was asked a question that if the players didn’t understand the PCB’s point of view. Khan replied, “They are centrally contracted players and we can then see if we should take disciplinary action against them. But we would like this situation to be resolved amicably long term,” Khan said.
A well-informed source in the board told PTI that the two players had openly met with the PCB chief at late night, but a deadlock persisted before the meeting ended inconclusively.
It is looking that the PCB is supporting to Amir for making a comeback in the national side by giving him a chance in the national conditioning camp. Amir had been also picked up in the PSL (Pakistan Super League) players draft at earlier.
Pakistan Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq also told BBC Urdu service that the Amir issue was a difficult one for everyone. He said, “It is not a simple issue. It is a difficult issue for everyone. We don’t know what will be the reaction of the people when our team plays how people will take it. No one knows or realizes what will happen if Amir plays.”
Misbah added,“I think there will be people in PCB who have concerns as well. Players have forgiven the three players but the reaction is still a big question and it will be very difficult for any captain as there will be questions from media, how crowds will react abroad particularly in England.” he said.
Misbah also spoke out that PCB would take players into confidence. He said, “But from what I am hearing this will happen in the camp and I am sure the PCB will take players into confidence.”
