Sachin Tendulkar joins Mumbaikar to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi
When the entire Mumbai is celebrating their biggest festival- Ganesh Chaturthi. Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar joined them with his family as well.
Sachin Tendulkar celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi, an auspicious day to perform the ritual of the God of Commerce, on Thursday with his family. In a Facebook post, Sachin was seen alongside daughter Sara, wife Anjali and Son Arjun.
“Ganpati Bappa Morya!” said the caption of the image.
In a diversified country like India, there are many big festivals which celebrated with huge passion in a particular state. Similarly, Mumbai is known for his love for the God of commerce –Ganesh as the city itself is known as the business capital of India.
Sachin Tendulkar, even after his retirement, is among the best marketable player around the world.
The Indian legend, before his retirement in 2012, earned $18.6 million from endorsement. The Little Master has a huge fan following that helped him to earn a sum in his last year in cricket. Before MS Dhoni rose to the fame, Indian batting maestro was highest paid cricketer in the world. The former great has 7.83 million Twitter followers that was the highest for an Indian cricketer before new star Indian Test captain Virat Kohli got past him with 8.09 million fans on twitter.
Sachin Tendulkar last year has bought 40% stake in the Indian Super League franchise Kerala Blasters. After his retirement, he has been playing the role brand ambassador for Luminous Power Technologies Pvt. Ltd, Musafir.com, BMW India Pvt. Ltd, Aviva Life Insurance Co. Ltd, MRF Ltd, DM Healthcare Pvt. Ltd, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the International Cricket Council.
At his peak, the man with 13 Guinness world records to his credit endorsed 18-20 brands. Among them were German sportswear maker Adidas, the energy drink Boost from GlaxoSmithKline Plc’s consumer healthcare portfolio and beverage maker PepsiCo India Holdings Pvt. Ltd.
Tendulkar is his playing days used to earn Rs. 6.7 crore per endorsement but conglomerates have lost interest in him as his attractiveness and relevance for advertisers is no more after his retirement in 2012. In the year between 2013 and 2014 Sachin Tendulkar endorsement income declined from an estimated Rs. 120 crore to Rs 75 crore, According to a sports report jointly published by Group M, a media-buying agency of WPP Plc, and SportzPower, a sports business news company.
However, Tendulkar’s good will is still a unique selling point (USP) for him. He was made as a prime brand ambassador of UNICEF’S South Asia in November 2013 to promote awareness regarding hygiene and sanitation among children.
