Picking Kuldeep Yadav Was A Masterstroke By Anil Kumble And Virat Kohli, Says Mohammad Kaif

With Dharamsala pitch expected to assist fast bowlers, Kuldeep Yadav’s inclusion in the playing eleven for the final match against Australia in Dharamsala had raised a few eyebrows. However, one man who was very assured of a good performance from the youngster was former India batsman Mohammad Kaif.

Even before the match had begun, Kaif had predicted a great debut for Kuldeep. Wishing luck to Team India, he had tweeted:

The chinaman spinner proved his prediction correct by being the most successful Indian bowler on the first day of the match. Kuldeep took 4 for 68 as India bowled the visitors out for 300 despite Steve Smith’s men enjoying a solid start.

Kuldeep’s performance might have exceeded Kaif’s expectations but the former India international was not surprised at his former state teammate’s exploits.

“You are never ready for a bowler like Kuldeep. You need to have a proper plan. I think Australia never expected him to play,” Kaif told The Times of India.

“If a player has match-winning ability and skill to take wickets, then you must pick him. It’s a masterstroke by Anil Kumble and Virat Kohli. Indian attack needed that, especially it being the Test that decides the outcome of the series. Great pick, that’s why I tweeted in the morning that he will be the man of the moment,” he added.

He further said that Kuldeep is different from other chinaman bowlers due to his remarkable accuracy.

“Give the ball to Kuldeep and wait and watch what happens. The difference between him and other similar spinners is that he is very accurate and will hardly give you loose balls.A batsman may come out and hit him over the top like Glenn Maxwell did today, but he will be right back at you attacking the very next ball,” Kaif said.

Here is what he tweeted:
