Players who have scored the fastest 200s in ODI cricket

There was a time when people thought scoring 200 was an impossible task in ODI cricket but has rooted the likes of Virender Sehwag and Chris Gayle to break the jinx as they were the openers with fierce power hitting.

However, it was the “God of cricket” who first made the impossible possible in 2010 and thereafter we have seen 6 double centuries in the span of 5 years. Here, we look at the fastest double centuries in ODI cricket.

6. Rohit Sharma (156 balls)

Rohit Sharma is one of the very finest batsmen India possesses at the moment. It is mainly because of the maturity he has been showing over the last 3-4 years despite having a lot of hiccups before that.

The star has come to the limelight when he was promoted as an opener from a middle-order batsman in 2012. He has scored his first double hundred against Australia in 156 balls as he holds the unique record of scoring two double hundreds in ODI cricket.

5. Martin Guptill (152 balls)

The New Zealand batsman has broke many of the existing world cup records with this unbelievable knock as  he went on to make 237* by the end of the innings in a crucial quarterfinal clash against West Indies.

He managed to score 24 fours and 11 sixes in his innings as he achieved the double hundred in 152 balls.

4. Rohit Sharma (151 balls)

The Indian opener did it for the second time against Sri Lanka in Eden Gardens exactly 12 months later. He went on to make 264 from 173 balls as he took Sri Lankan bowling for cleaners.

Rohit has hit 25 fours and 9 sixes as he broke most of the existing records for a single ODI innings.

3. Sachin Tendulkar (147 balls)

Paving the way and showing everyone that double hundred in an ODI is not impossible, Sachin Tendulkar’s knock can be considered the one of the best (if not the best) among all the double hundreds as he managed it against a world-class bowling unit of South Africa.

The master has scored 25 boundaries and 3 sixes in his innings as he remained not out as India piled up 401by the end of their innings.

2. Virender Sehwag ( 140 balls)

Following the master, Virender Sehwag had become the second one to reach the double century milestone in ODI history. Captaining the side, Virender Sehwag took the charge to West Indies as he murdered their bowling.

The legendary stroke player has made 219 from 149 balls as he scored 25 boundaries and 7 sixes in the process.

1. Chris Gayle (138 balls)

Chris Gayle has set the score card on fire when West Indies took on Zimbabwe in the group stage. The player broke the record for highest score in world cup history (later broken by Martin Guptill ) and also registered the best ODI partnership in entire cricket history.

The Jamaican had scored 10 fours and 16 sixes in his innings of 215 from 147 balls as West Indies went on to win the match comprehensively.
