The Best XI of Indian Premier league 2016

The group stage of the ninth edition of Indian Premier League is over. All eight teams, excluding Rising Pune Supergiants and Kings XI Punjab, have played good cricket. Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers  salvaged the shrinking ship of Royal Challengers Bangalore as their, especially Virat Kohli’s above the level batting helped RCB to qualify for the playoff from being down in the bottom to now in top two. It was an interesting journey. Teams like Sunrisers Hyderabad, newbie Gujarat Lions, Kolkata Knight Riders qualified for the playoff as their players rose to the occasion when their teams need them the most.

As the group stage gets over, Sportzwiki selected its own playing XI considering the performance of the players till the group stage.

David Warner: Sunrisers Hyderabad captain in the early stage of the campaign carried his team alone in the batting department as he won at least 3 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad out of first 6. When Warner was scoring runs, at the other end was a crawling Shikhar Dhawan who was out of form for the majority of the group stage matches. So Waner had to carry the burden of batting before Dhawan started performing. Warner played all 14 league matches and scored 658 runs at an average of  54.83. The highest score is 92 and strike rate is 150.91.

Shane Watson: Royal Challengers Bangalore allrounder is the most expensive player in IPL 9. He hardly gets a chance to play big innings as RCB top order batsmen Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers did the job for the team. However when he got a chance in death overs, Watson hit some lusty shots to add some extra runs to the colossal total of RCB. Watson in 14 matches scored 167. But as a bowler, Watson signed off with 16 wickets in 14 matches. Watson as an opener will get a lot of opportunities to show his caliber and he will be a useful bowler for his team, so we have him opening the batting instead of modern day Bradman Virat Kohli.

Virat Kohli (C): Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has played record breaking innings to help his team to qualify for the playoff. He helped his team to chase a big total with ease and anchored to score colossal totals batting first. Breaking previous records, he hit four hundred in this IPL and went on to score 919 runs after the completion of the group stage. He performed in all almost all matches. His batting average is 91.90. He scored six fifty and four hundred. His intent to play from the front inspired his team to qualify for the playoff from the jaws of elimination.

Karun Nair: TDelhi Daredevils middle order batsman showed his character in crunch situations. He won Delhi a close match against Sunrisers Hyderabad playing an unbeaten 83 run innings. Nair showed that he can soak up the pressure and play in demanding situations. He appeared in all 14 matches in this IPL and scored 357 runs at an average of 35.70.

Lokesh Rahul (wk): RRoyal Challengers Bangalore batsman improved a lot in this IPL as his sensible innings helped RCB on a couple of occasions when Virat and AB de Villiers failed to emulate their innings on rear occasions. Rahul who played as a wicketkeeper for RCB scored 386 runs in 12 matches with ana astonishing average of  55.14.

Dwayne Bravo: The flamboyant Gujarat Lions bowling allrounder took 15 matches in 13 matches. Bravo is a utility player as his bowling is a key weapon for his captain and his batting is also useful for his team. Bravo’s presence and his champion celebration rejuvenate his team. He helped Gujarat Lions to a playoff to qualify for the playoff.

Krunal Pandya: Mumbai Indians allrounder is a very useful cricketer who can help his team with all-round skills. His 37 balls 87 helped his team to win a close match for Mumbai Indians. Along with batting, his useful spin can help his team.

Yuzvendra Chahal: The RCB spinner is currently the holder of Purple Cap as he took 19 wickets from 11 matches. He is the only bowler for RCB who won them matches when their batsmen failed to fire.  Chahal  is also selected for India’s limited over the tour to Zimbabwe.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar : The Indian seamer is back in his mojo after he lost his charm and was discarded from the Indian team. But his form in IPL, where he took 18 wickets so far for Sunrisers Hyderabad  helped the later to qualify for the payoff. Bhuvneshwar is a leading bowler of SRH so he is the first choice as a seaming bowler in the playing XI.

Mustafizur Rahman: The Bangladesh mystery bowler who was picked up by Sunrisers Hyderabad is unplayable for every batsman who played this season. His slow medium pace weapon with cutters out-foxed many batsmen. His economical spells helped SRH a lot. He took 16 wickets in 14 matches.

Sandeep Sharma: TKings XI Punjab star is an underrated bowler who bowls well in every season but doesn’t get his worth. In this season when his team finished at the bottom position, Sharma rose as an individual as he took 15 wickets in 14 matches at ana average of  24.40.

12th Man – AB de Villiers (Unfortunately only 4 foreign players can be selected in IPL XI, so a guy who will make it to any team in the world misses out here).
