Police is in search of Bangladesh cricketer Shahadat Hossain
Bangladesh police are yet to find cricketer Shahadat Hossain, who has been snapped along with his wife after the allegations that they abused and tortured an 11 year old housemaid, who was found crying on the street of Dhaka on September 6.
Police have been severely criticised for failing to haunt the pair.
Nazrul Islam, a senior officer of Dhaka police who is leading the investigation, told the BBC Bangla, a Bengali news service division of the British broadcasting corporation, that they were “serious about it.”
He further said that Dhaka police also conducted raids in Shahadat’s house where his parents live and his in-laws house.
“It doesn’t matter if he’s a national cricketer or not – he’s an accused before the eyes of the law. We will track him down and put him before the court,”Islam said.
The authority came under scrutiny as they failed to nap Hossain and his wife since the pair’s whereabout is still to be known after 17 days of disappearance.
Mozammel Haq, who found Hossain’s maid on the road and filed a case against Hossain is among those have expressed their frustration.
“I found the girl in a street near my house – she was severely injured,” Mr Haq told the BBC’s Bengali Service.
“She alleged that she had been tortured by Shahadat Hossain
“I took her to the police station and filed a case. It is very frustrating that he has not been arrested.”
Who is Shahadat Hossain?
Shahadat Hossain is medium pace bowler who made debut for the Tigers in 2005.
He made his debut in 2005 at Lord’s against England. He has taken 70 Test wickets in 36 Tests and 47 wickets in 79 one –day internationals, with best figures of 6-27. In domestic cricket, he plays for Dhaka Division.
Hossain last played for Bangladesh in a Test match against Pakistan in May, when he twisted his right knee and eventually ruled out from any form of cricket for six months.
Hossain, he was the first Bangladesh player whose name was added to the Lord’s honour board when he took 5 for 98 against England in May 2010
As the bowlers like Taskin Ahmed, Rubel Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman are in Bangladesh’s rank Hossain was no more being considered for limited over cricket. He played last in 2013 against Sri Lanka in Pallekele.
Now, it seems that a Hossain’s 10-year long international career is now over. The Bangladesh Cricket Board is also annoyed with this incident as their image has been tainted by this child torture incident. Hossain also played six Twenty 20 matches.
