The second game of the day will see Delhi Daredevils and Rajasthan Royals fight at the Braboune Stadium in Mumbai today from 8.00 PM. Delhi Daredevils won their last match by defeating Punjab in comprehensive manner whereas Rajasthan Royals lost their previous match against Mumbai. Last time they met in this tournament Rajasthan Royals won a last ball thriller. Rajasthan would want to win matches again after winning the first 5 matches in a row since then losing all but one in Bangalore as it was washed out.
PREVIOUS YEAR CLASHES
The first time they met was on 3rd May at Delhi. It was not a high scoring game. Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to field. Delhi Daredevils innings began off to a good start with Vijay and Pietersen scoring 33 for the first wicket. After that they lost three quick wickets before Duminy and Jadhav revived the innings. De kock was the top scorer with 42, followed by Duminy with 39 and Jadhav with 28. Delhi scored 152 for 5 in 20 overs. While chasing they lost the early wicket of Rahane for 12. Samson and Karun Nair steadied the innings with crucial partnership of 51. Karun Nair remained not out on 73. Rajasthan Royals won the match by 7 wickets with 9 balls to spare.
After 12 days they met again but this time in Ahmadabad. It was a high scoring match. Delhi Daredevils won the toss and elected to field. In the Rajasthan Royals innings every batsmen scored runs. Rahane started off well scoring 64 off 50 balls, followed by Kevin Cooper scoring 32 off 16 balls, Samson scoring 40 off 25 balls and at the end Faulkner scoring 23 off 8 balls to help Rajasthan post a massive 201 for 6 in 20 overs. While chasing a big score Delhi Daredevils none of the top order batsmen were able to score. Manoj Tiwary was the top scorer with 61 not out. Delhi Daredevils scored 139 for 9 in 20 overs and lost the match by 62 runs.
Sheryas Iyer has been the find of the tournament so far. He has all the shots in the making and has impressed with his technique also. Against Kings XI Punjab he scored a 50 and helped Delhi win the match by 9 wickets. Against Rajasthan Royals this young man needs to provide a good start so that Delhi Daredevils middle order can build upon.
Nathan Coulter Nile
Nathan Coulter Nile has been very impressive for the Delhi Daredevils with the new ball. He has swung the ball and created pressure on the batsmen. Against Kings XI Punjab he picked 4 wickets giving away 20 runs and was adjudged the man of the match. Today he needs to do the same thing by picking wickets with new ball.
Shane Watson did score some runs with bat in the previous match against Mumbai but was not able to convert starts into big scores. His side has lost 3 matches after winning the first 5 matches with 2 matches washed out due to rains. Shane Watson needs to lead from the front and ensure that Rajasthan does not slip a good start in the tournament.
Tim Southee was superb in the previous match against Mumbai Indians. He swung the ball and a catch was dropped on his bowling. He bowled well taking 1 wicket for 36 runs with an economy of 9. He needs to bowl well in death overs and not allow the batsmen to score big runs which will help Rajasthan Royals restrict Delhi Daredevils to a respectable total.
